Advisory Board Introduction (added DJ) PEP Support Apr 2009 – Mar 2010 Halloween Garden Party Santa (3 days) OIS sponsors Billy Blanks visit to SMK Payangan OIS gp visit – connection with Bali International School > Yu to help with Japanese on Saturdays, Appeal again to Annika Linden, UN ST-EP, UNWTO Lyn Melville Rea spoke about the PEP Foundations mission: Sustainable Tourism and Education to Eliminate Poverty. Mentioned disparity of wealth, climate change. Visit by Dong Jun Yoo to UN ST_EP in Seoul. Kyoto Protocol, Climate Summit in Bali and the Copenhagen Climate Conference say developed countries must share clean energy technology with developing countries. The PEP Advisory Board wants the training center to teach sustainability as well as traditional hospitality subjects. Sustainable tourism must avoid using land farmland, it should not add to the problem of climate change and should make life better for the students of SMK and the community of Payangan. Lyn finished by reiterating that all board members are unpaid volunteers, in line with Indonesian NPO regulations and specifically thanked Niko for his efforts. Alit – expressed discontent that the PEP board did not get approval from the Head of SMK PGRI Payangan High School (Wayan Renes) before registering the foundation and that the board members were not chosen by the Head of SMK PGRI Payagan. Nikolaus Suyasa confirmed that while the PEP Foundation is registered separately from the school foundation, its purpose is to improve opportunities for students in the Payangan community. Mr Renes expressed frustration in communication difficulties as he does not speak English. He thanked the Melville-Rea's for their efforts and apologized for those teachers not present. Treasurer's Report: Apr 2009 – Mar 2010 Fund-raising in Japan Clove Box Sales Halloween Garden Party Santa (3 days) SMK student sponsorship program by OIS community Billy Blanks & Family airfares to Bali (donated by William & Lyn) Fund – raising in Bali Billy Blanks PEP Foundation Fund-raising workouts at Bali International School, Campuhan College, Ubud Fitness Center. Other activities SMK students led Real Deal Climate Vigil, hosted students from Osaka SMK students joined Earth Day celebration in Ubud. Billy Blanks visit to SMK Payangan, student homes, Karate class Osaka & Bali International School students met with SMK Payangan students to discuss ways to work together. PEP Foundation agreed to pay for internet connection (3 000 000 IDR) and monthly fee of 300,000 IDR each month. Yu Wada from Bali International School will help with Japanese classes on Saturdays. Yu's father is keen to help with a tree-planting program. Forthcoming fund-raising efforts: Japan – William to visit UNWTO (ST-EP) in Korea, Lyn to send requests to Suntech (solar power), HOPE Foundation, Asia Foundation. Keriana to organize Osaka Idol fund-raiser, Mama Charity bike ride? Bali - Appeal again to Annika Linden Foundation, contact Eco – Bali to get recycling happening, Kym is offering a free DJ course for SMK students, Niko will organize internet connection, PEP board members will appeal to hotels, Australian, Japanese & US Consulates for support.
